About CNO Supply Partners

CNO Supply Partners is a United States-based company specializing in the commercial-scale production and supply of high-purity carbon nano-onions (CNOs), also known as onion-like carbons or multilayer fullerenes. We deliver advanced carbon nanomaterials engineered for real-world industrial performance across energy storage, coatings, composites, construction, aerospace, and defense applications.

Our mission is to make next-generation carbon nanostructures available at commercial volumes with consistent quality, reliable supply, and technical support. By focusing on scalable production methods, we help manufacturers move beyond laboratory quantities into practical, cost-effective integration of CNOs into batteries, paints, concrete, polymers, and high-performance composites.

We partner with material scientists, formulators, and end-users to optimize dispersion, loading levels, and performance outcomes. Headquartered in the United States, CNO Supply Partners emphasizes domestic production capabilities, quality control, and responsive customer service to support North American and global supply chains.

Whether you are developing higher-power batteries, longer-lasting marine coatings, stronger lightweight composites for drones and aerospace, or more efficient concrete and protective coatings, CNO Supply Partners provides the material and expertise to accelerate commercialization.

What Are Carbon Nano-Onions?

Carbon nano-onions (CNOs) are nanoscale carbon particles consisting of multiple concentric fullerene-like graphitic shells, resembling the layered structure of an onion. Typical diameters range from a few nanometers to under 100 nm (commonly below 10–30 nm depending on synthesis). They feature a high degree of sp² carbon ordering with defects that enhance reactivity and surface accessibility.

Key inherent properties include:

  • High electrical conductivity (comparable to or better than many carbon blacks in relevant applications)
  • Large external surface area (typically 30–500 m²/g)
  • Excellent thermal and chemical stability
  • Good dispersibility in various matrices compared to high-aspect-ratio materials
  • Spherical morphology that supports efficient packing and reduced agglomeration challenges in some systems
  • Mechanical reinforcement potential when incorporated into polymers or composites

These characteristics make CNOs versatile additives and functional materials rather than purely structural fibers.

The Unique Structure Advantage

Unlike one-dimensional carbon nanotubes or continuous carbon fibers, carbon nano-onions are zero-dimensional spherical nanoparticles with concentric multi-shell graphitic layers. This morphology provides high external surface accessibility, good packing characteristics, and often easier dispersion in polymers, resins, paints, and cementitious systems compared to high-aspect-ratio materials that can tangle or agglomerate.

Synthesis routes (including thermal annealing of nanodiamonds, arc methods, chemical vapor approaches, and emerging scalable processes such as certain electrosynthesis routes from carbon sources) can produce material with controllable size, defect density, and surface chemistry. Surface functionalization further tunes compatibility with specific matrices.

Our Services

Energy Storage (Batteries and Supercapacitors)

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Used as conductive additives in lithium-ion and other battery electrodes to improve charge transfer, reduce internal resistance, and enhance rate capability/power density. In supercapacitors, their external surface accessibility supports fast ion adsorption/desorption, delivering high power performance. They can also serve as substrates for redox-active materials or help accommodate volume changes in advanced anodes.

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Incorporated into paints and protective coatings to improve electrical conductivity (anti-static or electromagnetic properties), mechanical durability, barrier performance, and corrosion resistance. In marine and ship applications, enhanced coatings can contribute to longer service life, reduced fouling-related drag, and better protection in harsh environments through denser, more robust film structures and potential tribological benefits.

Aerospace, Drones, and Lightweight Structures

Coatings and Paints (Including Marine/Ship Coatings)

Aerospace, Drones, and Lightweight Structures

Added to polymer matrices (epoxies, thermoplastics, etc.) to boost mechanical strength (tensile, flexural), stiffness, toughness, and electrical/thermal conductivity at low loadings. This supports lighter, stronger components for airframes, drone structures, engines, and other weight-sensitive systems while enabling multifunctional properties such as EMI shielding or static dissipation.
